Beloved Concordia Family,
Drive-Thru Nativity UPDATE! The Drive-Thru Nativity is ON!
The forecast is calling for the possibility of freezing rain this weekend. We can deal with the cold (I didn’t say we’d like it!), but freezing rain is a different story. Please know that we will be monitoring the weather very carefully and will make a decision about going forward on Saturday and Sunday by 3 PM. IF we have to suspend the Drive-thru-Nativity on Saturday evening, that will NOT cancel the event for Sunday.
The good news is that the forecast that calls for freezing rain also suggests that it will be in the morning only and things will warm up enough to melt it away. We’ll have to wait and see. PLEASE plan to be here as scheduled. If there is a change, we’ll post it and get in touch right away on Saturday and Sunday.
By 3:15 PM (on Saturday and Sunday) we will post an update on our Concordia webpage (www.Concordia.cc) and Facebook page, the Pastors’ Facebook pages and Blogs, and the “Night Ring” message (if you call Concordia at 210-479-1477).
Text Message Update! If you’d prefer to receive a text message updating you on the status of the Drive-Thru Nativity, text the word “DTN2013” (no quotation marks) to 45384. Regular charges (according to your messaging plan) will apply.
A VERY special opportunity … Drive-Thru Nativity Prayer Vigil
There are many of us who pray for the success and safety of our Drive-Thru Nativity each year. However, on this 10th Annual DTN, it has been suggested that we create a Prayer Vigil to support this important mission endeavor. As a result, we have created a schedule for each day (Saturday and Sunday) from 4 PM to 10 Pm (an hour before it starts and an hour after if ends) that will allow our beloved Concordia family to join together in lifting up this important evangelistic effort. If you’d like to be a part of this wonderful labor of love and prayer, please go HERE and sign up today.
Christmas from the Heart
All Christmas for the Heart items are due MONDAY, DECEMBER 9, at 9 AM! If you have questions or need help, call the church office or stop by Christmas Central (next to the Welcome Center in the entry area of the Sanctuary). Thank you for being a part of these very special ministries.
A New Sermon Series … “Christmas in Reverse”
Do you ever wish you could have a “do-over?” We all have mistakes we wish we could reverse. This year during the holidays, we look at the story of Christmas “in reverse” and learn how God can take our most regretful moments and reverse them to and for His glory. In “working all things together for our good,” God shows the power of “Reverse!” in our lives.
Series Theme Verse: The lowly will be exalted and the exalted will be brought low … Ezekiel 21:26b
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.” When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born. “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written: ‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the Shepherd of my people Israel.’” Matthew 2:1-6
Herod was ignorant about the coming Messiah to be born in Bethlehem. The wise men were ignorant of the fact that Herod was an evil despot. Both needed to understand God’s Word and plans more fully. We too need to understand God’s Word and plans. Thankfully, God reveals Himself to us through Jesus … and pushes back the ignorance.
I hope you will plan to be a part of worship this Sunday at 8, 9:30, or 11am. Remember there is no Saturday night or Sunday Vespers service this weekend. Invite a friend to join us as we prepare for the advent of our King.
Your pastor loves you!
